The Henry Viscardi School Medical Department consists of four nurses and a school physician. The nursing staff provides all students with necessary daily and intermittent medical treatments, as well as emergency care as needed. The school physician is a consultant and is available for screening evaluations of prospective students, triennial evaluations, monitoring of students’ medical status and consultation.
This service is provided in a new state of the art medical facility which has a variety of beautifully designed areas for care. Specific care needs are addressed in sections designated by soothing colors. These areas include: respiratory treatments, gastrostomy feedings, isolation, bed rest, emergency treatment, catheterizations, vision testing and an area for student privacy in learning specific medical care techniques.
