Dr. Pavan John Antony, an Assistant Professor in Special Education at Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, Adelphi University is conducting a study to learn about the college experiences of students with Cerebral Palsy. He is looking for individuals with Cerebral Palsy or mild intellectual disabilities who have attended or are currently attending college.  If you decide to participate, you will be interviewed for about 1 hour, at a time and date that is mutually convenient for you at the Henry Viscardi School. The transcribed data will also be reviewed with you on another date and time convenient for you.

We hope that through your participation in the study, others in the community/society in general will benefit.

Rob Pipia, a 1982 graduate of the Henry Viscardi School, has been nominated to run for Second District Court Judge in Nassau County.  While at Viscardi,  Rob was the Vice President of the Student Council, member of the yearbook staff and captain of the school’s hockey team. He was also a National Honor Society member among other activities.

Now a Town of Hempstead attorney and married to Ms. Pipia, a teacher at Viscardi, Rob frequently speaks with students about advocacy and commitment. He is a role model for all students at Viscardi and freely shares his personal experiences to empower others.

 

 

On Wednesday, May 23, 2012 LISHA (Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association) held its 22nd Annual Awards Night where they celebrated “May is Better Hearing and Speech Month”.  Each year LISHA donates money from their Fall Conference proceeds to local schools and this year we were honored to receive $500 for a purchase of an iPad for the Henry Vicardi School Speech Department.  The award was presented by Renee Fabus, President of LISHA.  Representatives receiving the award were Stephanie Cohen, Fran Braterman, and Pat Snyder.

From 2012 Legislative Disabilities Awareness Day

“Disability Awareness Day in the NY State Assembly” was held Monday, May 21 in Albany.  The Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr. Advocacy Award is given annually.  This year Ms. Kuntzler and Mr. Turan were on hand to help Assemblyman Cusick make the presentation to Clifton Perez, Systems Advocate at Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley. Dr. Viscardi’s contribution as an advocate on behalf of all individuals with disabilities was noted by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
