Henry Viscardi School Announces New Administrators

Albertson, NY – September 19, 2013 – The Henry Viscardi School at The Viscardi Center recently introduced its new administrative team. Diana DeVivio was hired as the new Principal and Angelo Zegarelli has been promoted to the Assistant Principal position.

In addition to her career as a Special Education teacher, DeVivio has served as a Special Education Administrator in several local school districts. She has also provided consulting services to the International Organization of Advancement in Disability Education.

Zegarelli has been with the Henry Viscardi School for more than 10 years as a teacher and has also served as an administrator for the School’s summer program. He has a long history of working with the students and staff in the school.

“Diana and Angelo bring a strong commitment and dedication to students with disabilities and the school community as a whole,” said John D. Kemp, President and CEO of The Viscardi Center and the Henry Viscardi School. “I look forward to working closely with them as we continue to provide a fully enriched academic program of excellence that includes personal growth and leadership development so that Henry Viscardi School students are prepared for life’s opportunities, including college, career and community destinations.”

“I am thrilled to be here in this warm and supportive learning community, an institution of excellence,” said Diana DeVivio. “I believe that parents and staff are essential partners in our joint educational endeavor and our collective strengths, perspectives and participation in our learning community will foster continued excellence and positive outcomes for all of our children. Collaborative team building and participatory shared decision making will serve to facilitate the learning process.  As I think about the Henry Viscardi School, as well all the students, parents, and teachers who make up our community, I can’t help but realize that this is a wonderful place to be learning.”

“I am excited to assume a greater leadership role at the Henry Viscardi School,” said Angelo Zegarelli. “I’m looking forward to coordinating my efforts with parents, staff and students which continue to support an environment beneficial to student learning.”

The Henry Viscardi School at The Viscardi Center is a New York State supported 4201 school that offers parents of children with severe physical disabilities and who often require life-sustaining medical treatment throughout the day, a traditional educational setting option that provides rigorous academics and opportunities for personal growth and leadership development. Its specialized, accessible educational setting provides a fully-enriched academic program, a variety of therapies, assistive technology and medical supports to students who may otherwise need to receive instruction in their homes or a hospital.
