The Viscardi Center Announces Call for Nominations to Honor Distinguished Leaders of the Disability Community; 2nd Annual Awards Pay Tribute to Influential Individuals with Disabilities

Senator Robert Dole and the Honorable Luis Gallegos to Co-Chair Selection Committee Seeking Contemporary Leaders

October 28, 2013 – The Viscardi Center today issued a “Call for Nominations” for the Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards, which pay tribute to exemplary leaders in the disability community who have had a profound impact on shaping attitudes, raising awareness and improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. Aspiring Artist at HVS Has Work Displayed in Manhattan to Support Children With Disabilities

Aspiring Artist at Henry Viscardi School at The Viscardi Center Has Work Displayed in Manhattan to Support Children With Disabilities

Albertson, NY, October 9, 2013….Tenzin S., a 12th-grader at the Henry Viscardi School at The Viscardi Center, an accredited Pre-K through grade 12 school for children with severe physical disabilities, joined some 70+ local artists taking part in the Adaptive Design Association’s Chairs For Humanity Celebration by painting an original design — a nature theme with flowers — on a large, white cardboard chair. The painted chairs will be displayed throughout October in prominent Manhattan venues including the Hilton Hotel, Goldman Sachs, the Fashion District and The Center For Architecture. At the conclusion of the project, the artwork will be raffled off to raise awareness and funds to provide customized equipment for children with disabilities in New York City. [Read more…]

 at Outdoor Exhibition at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood

Albertson, NY, September 24, 2013….Four students from Henry Viscardi School at The Viscardi Center recently had their artwork — captivating digital images with interpretive text — selected for display at the 2013 Embracing Our Differences outdoor art exhibition celebrating diversity from October 14-27 at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood. Daniel Murphy meets Richard Bedard before the game at Citi Field. 

As part of the Mets’ “Amazin’ Calls” program, Daniel Murphy phoned Richard Bedard on Wednesday and invited him to Citi Field, meeting him Friday on the field during batting practice. Bedard, who lives with cerebral palsy, will graduate from the Henry Viscardi School in Albertson, N.Y., on Thursday and will attend Adelphi University to study law in the fall on scholarships for academic merit and for leadership and community service.
