Accessible Vehicle Visits Viscardi
From Accessible Taxi |
Yesterday, Tuesday, February 28th, Partners for Access brought an accessible vehicle for our students to see that could be used as an accessible taxi. Many of our students in grades 10-RAMP were able to board the taxi which may provide great travel opportunities for them in the future. Some students even thought that this vehicle may be something that they may purchase in the future in lieu of a full sized van. We thank Partners for Access for giving our students this opportunity and are very excited about the possibilities.

What’s Going on at Viscardi
Our students and staff have been active members of the community this year. Here are several activities that they have been participating in:
RAMP hosting the Parker Jewish Geriatric Center (12/16/11)
The students from the R.A.M.P. Program have been volunteering at Parker Jewish Geriatric Center for over a year. On December 16, 2011, we invited them to visit with us. We hosted a luncheon for five ladies and 2 employees from the center. We had pizza, soft drinks and dessert. We played Bingo, listened to music, talked and had lots of fun. We will be volunteering at the Center in February.
Visit to Queensborough Community College by Kim Albrecht, Jeanette Glover, and Seniors
Four juniors and four seniors visited Queensborough Community College on December 13, 2011. We met with staff from the Services for Students with Disabilities and they showed us a video of the school and then took us on a tour. He had a surprise for us at the end of the tour, which was an alumnus from Henry Viscardi School. It was a great opportunity for the students to visit a college they are interested in attending.
