HVS Students Lead Backpack Drive for Homeless LI Youth
As students across Long Island look forward to summer vacation, members of the Middle School Student Council at the Henry Viscardi School are helping local children in need prepare for the next school year.
In partnership with the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH), the Middle School Student Council recently collected 100 brightly-colored backpack donations stocked with new school supplies, which will be distributed to homeless and at-risk Long Island children at LICH’s annual Backpack Pirates event this summer.
LICH works to eliminate homelessness on Long Island by taking individuals and families off the street and placing them into safe homes. The organization provides emergency, transitional, and permanent low-cost housing for those in need, and regularly hosts conferences, events, and drives that engage the local community and spread awareness about the reality of homelessness in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
